The Magnificent Seven
There were many stars and unsung heroes
who played major roles in the Oshawa Green Gales' seven consecutive
Minto Cup I victories.
Among them was Don Stinson who epitomized coach Jim Bishop's hard work ethic. This Huntsville product played on 13 straight Ontario champions - six from novice through peewee in Huntsville and then seven with the Gaels.
And from age 13 through 21 Stinson, at 6-foot-3, was the only man to play on all seven of Oshawa's Minto championship squads.
He played with the Huntsville senior OLA Hawks and coached in the Huntsville minor system, including a 1971 Canadian peewee championship.
Stinson was also an outstanding hockey goaltender and after a highly successful minor career in Huntsville went on to play part of a season with the OHL London Knights in 1965. After retiring as a player, he became a top OHL referee and for many years has been an OMHA supervisor of officials in Muskoka/ Parry Sound.
Don, is also recognized in the Huntsville area as an avid hunter and trapper. He is employed in the contracting business.
