Message from the President - 2009

Dear Green Gaels Fans:

On behalf of the Clarington Green Gaels Junior B Lacrosse Club, it is my pleasure to welcome you to another exciting year of lacrosse at Garnet B. Rickard Arena. We are proud to provide our fans with the best Junior B skills, enthusiasm, and competitiveness available.

The Junior B League is the largest league in Ontario with 26 teams.  The Ontario Junior B League has proven to be the strongest and most competitive Junior B league in Canada, which most certainly makes it the most competitive world wide.  The Gaels are a major contender in this league, much of it due to the growth of minor lacrosse in Durham Region.  Our affiliate minor club, the Whitby Minor Lacrosse Association, deserve recognition for producing highly talented lacrosse players to fill our roster.

In entering our twelfth year in Clarington, we are very excited with this year’s line up.  After rebuilding last year due to an exodus of graduating players the previous year, we are sure to be contenders in the race for the Founder’s Cup Trophy in 2009.

In last year’s president’s message, I spoke about my memories of the Green Gaels as a boy, and the need for people to volunteer in order to create these memories for today’s youth.  Given the economic times we are experiencing, I find it important this year to speak about our sponsors who are an integral part in the success that the Green Gaels have enjoyed the past 62 years.

In preparing for this year’s fundraising, I found myself looking through Oshawa Green Gaels programs from the 60s and 70s searching for old friends of the Gaels to approach for sponsorship. I was amazed with how many businesses I came across that were not only still in existence, but still sponsoring the Gaels.  Our sponsors’ generosity is truly reflective of the type of people they are and the way they conduct their businesses.  These businesses do not sponsor the Green Gaels for their own gain or recognition.  They do not do it because they have a son on the team.  These business people realize the importance of community involvement and giving back to the community that  they are a part of.  Please take the time to peruse the advertisements in our program and on our website at www.greengaels.org.  As fans of the Green Gaels in these economic trying times, I ask you to return the favour, and support the businesses that have supported your community with their generosity. They are truly FRIENDS of the Green Gaels.

  Sincerely yours in lacrosse,

  Dave Abramczuk – President
